RBI holds the repo rate at 5.25% and cuts its FY27 growth forecast to 6.9%
What happened. On 8 April 2026 the Monetary Policy Committee voted unanimously to keep the repo rate at 5.25% with a neutral stance, projecting FY27 GDP growth of 6.9% and CPI inflation of 4.6%, citing the West Asia conflict and higher crude prices.
Why it matters for investors. Governor Sanjay Malhotra said rate increases were not the right tool for supply-driven inflation. The committee treated the energy shock as a risk to inflation and growth.
