What happened. Gross GST collections for December 2021, announced on 1 January 2022, were about Rs 1.29 lakh crore, roughly 13% higher than a year earlier, continuing a run above the Rs 1 lakh crore mark.

Why it matters for investors. Steady GST collections are an indicator of formal-sector consumption and compliance. Monthly figures are affected by timing of returns and by inflation, so trends matter more than single months.
